MAKER

The Maker Movement has been slowly gaining popularity in the STEAM circles. It is a broad term that encompases do it yourself mentality with crafting and hand building as well as teaching problem solving and design thinking. Students are encouraged to create by doing with little or no instruction. They are encouraged to become critical thinkers with the ability to solve problems and also share and document their work. The Maker class will teach basic hand building as well as engineering, basic electronics, and Coding. In the future I would like to incorporate 3D printers, Vinyl cutters, Lazer cutters and Robotics.

"The maker movement, as we know, is the umbrella term for independent inventors, designers and tinkerers. A convergence of computer hackers and traditional artisans, the niche is established enough to have its own magazine, Make, as well as hands-on Maker Faires that are catnip for DIYers who used to toil in solitude. Makers tap into an American admiration for self-reliance and combine that with open-source learning, contemporary design and powerful personal technology like 3-D printers." http://www.adweek.com/news/advertising-branding/which-big-brands-are-courting-maker-movement-and-why-156315
